How does at-home IPL laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation work?

At-home IPL laser hair removal works by sending gentle pulses of light energy into the skin, where the pigment in the hair absorbs it and converts it to heat. That heat targets the hair follicle, reducing regrowth over a course of treatments for smooth, permanent hair removal at home. The same IPL laser technology powers skin rejuvenation, where the light is absorbed by problem areas and boosts collagen production to refine tone and texture for a smoother, more radiant complexion. Both the Lumilia Lux™ and Lumilia GlacierX™ bring this salon-style technology into your own bathroom.

The Full Routine

Your step by step guide.

Four simple phases, eight gentle steps. Take it at your own pace.

Phase One

Prepare your skin.

01

Shave first.

Shave the area you plan to treat. The light targets hair at the root, so a freshly shaved surface lets it work properly. No need for waxing or plucking — the Lumilia Lux™ needs that root to do its job.

02

Cleanse and dry.

Skin should be clean, dry and bare. Remove any makeup, lotion or fake tan first. A fresh, bare canvas is what your Lumilia Lux™ needs to do its best work.

Phase Two

Set up your device.

03

Power on.

Plug in the adapter and hold the power button for three seconds until the menu screen loads.

The Lumilia Lux™ is a corded device — stay connected to the wall throughout your session.
HR SR
04

Pick your mode.

Hair Removal is the default. To switch to Skin Rejuvenation, hold the top button and power button together for three seconds. Your mode shows on screen as HR or SR.

05

Set your intensity.

Hair Removal offers eight intensity levels. Begin at level 1 or 2 for your first session and build up as your skin grows comfortable. Skin Rejuvenation uses level 1 only.

Patch test first. Treat a small area and wait 30 minutes before a full session.
Phase Three

Treat your skin.

06

Flash the area.

Place the Lumilia Lux™ flat against your skin and press the flash button. Slip on the included safety glasses before you begin.

07

Glide with Auto Mode.

For larger areas like legs, switch to Automatic Mode. The Lumilia Lux™ flashes on contact so you can glide it along for smooth, continuous coverage.

Phase Four

Finish up.

08

Finish and soothe.

Flash each spot once or twice per session. Two to three sessions a week gives the best rhythm. Hold the power button to switch off. Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser or aloe vera gel to calm the skin. A little warmth or mild redness for 30–60 minutes is completely normal — a sign the treatment has worked. Avoid direct sun on treated areas for at least 24 hours and skip hot showers, saunas or intense heat immediately after your session.

One Device

Two modes, two routines.

The Lumilia Lux™ is a 2in1 tool. Master both and you have a complete at-home treatment ritual.

Hair Removal mode
Hair Removal

For smoother skin.

Use the Lumilia Lux™ two to three times a week for the first four to eight weeks. After that, an occasional session keeps things smooth.

  • Two gentle passes per area per session.
  • Gentle enough for the upper lip and chin.
  • The full bikini area is suitable too.
  • A warm prickling sensation is normal. It should not hurt.
Skin Rejuvenation mode
Skin Rejuvenation

For glowing skin.

Use this mode two to three times a week. Popular for the face, where it tends to help tone and texture look smoother over time.

  • Popular for the cheeks and forehead.
  • Always level 1 — gentle and steady.
  • Best results come with consistency.

Quick Answers

Things you might be wondering.

How do I switch between Manual and Auto (Glide) mode?
Press and hold the flash button for three seconds to switch to Auto (Glide). The same press takes you back to Manual.
How do I switch between Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation?
Hold the flash (top) and power (bottom) buttons together for three seconds. The screen shows HR or SR.
How often should I use the Lumilia Lux™?
Two to three sessions a week for the first four to eight weeks, then an occasional touch-up to stay smooth.
Is it meant to hurt?
No. A warm prickling sensation is normal. If anything feels sharp, lower the intensity by a level or two.
Can I use it on my face?
Yes — upper lip, chin and cheeks. Avoid the eye area. Always wear the safety glasses when treating the face.
My device is not flashing — what should I check?
Three things: confirm the device is flat against your skin (the contact sensor must be triggered), confirm the power adapter is fully plugged in at both ends, and confirm you are pressing the flash button and not the power button. If the issue continues, contact us.
I have done several weeks and see little change — is that normal?
Yes — IPL only works on hairs in the active growth phase. Most people notice softer regrowth around weeks 3 to 4, visible reduction by weeks 6 to 8, and long-term smoothness from around week 12. Two to three sessions per week in the initial phase is the most important thing for results.
Can I treat the bikini or Hollywood area?
Yes. The Lumilia Lux™ is suitable for the full bikini area, including the Hollywood. This is a more sensitive area, so always start at level 1, do a patch test first, and build up carefully. Never use on broken or irritated skin.
What should I expect immediately after treatment?
Mild warmth and a little redness in the treated area for 30 to 60 minutes is completely normal and a sign the treatment is working. Some people also notice a faint smell — that is the hair at the surface reacting to the light, not your skin being damaged. If you experience significant discomfort, blistering or prolonged redness beyond a few hours, reduce intensity and contact us.
